VERITY LEARNING
Safeguarding
Child welfare is central to suitable tutoring.
Our approach
We aim to provide an environment in which students can ask questions safely and adults maintain professional boundaries. England’s guidance for out-of-school settings informs the service standards. Individual tutor checks and the safeguarding contact must be confirmed before a placement.
Professional boundaries
Use the agreed lesson platform and parent-approved communication channels. Tutors should not request secret contact, communicate through personal student social accounts or arrange unapproved meetings. Parents can raise a concern without waiting for a routine progress review.
Responding to a concern
Record factual observations, avoid promising secrecy and raise concerns promptly with the safeguarding contact. Do not investigate a disclosure yourself. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. For a non-emergency police matter, use 101; local children’s services can advise on child protection concerns.
Tutor suitability
Identity, qualifications, references, subject knowledge and relevant checks form part of the suitability process. DBS eligibility and check requirements depend on the role. Parents should receive individual check information before the placement is confirmed.
