What a useful progress report looks like

An illustrative report format—not a real student result or a promised improvement.

SAMPLE ONLY · MATHEMATICS

Solving a linear equation

  • Starting point: could simplify an expression with a prompt; equation-solving needed support.
  • Lesson focus: perform the same operation on both sides and explain why.
  • Observed evidence: completed two new examples independently and checked by substitution.
  • Still developing: equations containing brackets required a reminder.
  • Independent practice: three varied equations, including one bracketed example.
  • Next review: revisit after a delay and check the explanation without prompts.
  • Parent note: encourage an explanation of the first step, rather than giving the method.

Evidence, independence and next steps

An honest report distinguishes what happened in the lesson from what a student can retain and apply later. A mock grade can be recorded as a school result, with its date and context; it should not be presented as a tutor-produced guarantee.

Reporting frequency and delivery are agreed with families. Where a management platform is used, reports are shared through its authorised parent communication settings.
