Help without taking over.
Support the learning habit and make the tutor conversation useful.
STEP 01
Start with curiosity.
Ask your child which part feels difficult: understanding the explanation, getting started, remembering a method or answering under time pressure. Listen before deciding that more work is the answer.
STEP 02
Agree a manageable routine.
Choose a quiet place and a realistic time for practice. A routine that your child can sustain is more useful than a demanding plan that becomes another source of conflict.
STEP 03
Ask questions that reveal understanding.
Try “Can you explain your first step?” or “What would you do differently next time?” If they are stuck, note the question for their tutor rather than completing it for them.
STEP 04
Check the tutor fit.
Ask about experience with the subject and course, how learning priorities will be set, what feedback you will receive and how your child can raise questions. Discuss fees, scheduling and tutor checks before booking.
STEP 05
Look for more than a score.
Notice whether your child starts tasks more independently, explains ideas more clearly or approaches mistakes more calmly. Use these observations alongside practice and school feedback when reviewing the learning plan.
