GCSE STUDENT GUIDE · FREE RESOURCE

Practise the skill.
Then practise the exam.

A whole paper is not always the best starting point. Move from a specific learning gap to timed practice when the method is secure.

01 · CONFIRM THE COURSE

Use the right questions.

Check your exam board, subject specification and Maths tier where relevant. For Literature, confirm the texts studied at school. Ask your teacher which official assessment materials are appropriate.

02 · PICK ONE SKILL

Work on the difficulty before adding time pressure.

Start with a topic, a paragraph or a question type. Explain the method and try a similar question. If you are uncertain, pause for feedback before attempting a full timed paper.

03 · LEARN FROM THE MARK SCHEME

Compare your reasoning, not just the final answer.

Identify what earned credit and what was missing. In Maths, inspect your working. In English and Business, check whether you addressed the question and developed your explanation. Ask for help when a mark scheme is unclear.

04 · KEEP AN ERROR LOG

Turn each mistake into a next action.

Write the topic, what went wrong and one action: revisit a definition, practise a method or plan a clearer paragraph. Attempt a related question later to check whether the change helped.

05 · ADD EXAM CONDITIONS

Practise timing when you are ready.

Build towards timed sections and complete papers using the correct assessment instructions. Review pacing and understanding separately. One practice mark is a snapshot, not a guarantee of a final grade.
