FREE PARENTS GUIDE
How to choose a tutor
Ask about teaching fit, checks, communication and practical arrangements.
Check the course fit
Ask about the age group, subject, specification, maths tier or set texts. A broad subject qualification is useful, but it is not proof of familiarity with every course.
Explore the teaching
Ask how the tutor identifies gaps, explains a difficult concept and checks independent understanding. A short demonstration can show more than a claim of excellent results.
Discuss safety and communication
Request individual check information, the safeguarding contact and the agreed communication channels. Ask who can access student information and whether any recording is proposed.
Make the arrangements clear
Confirm the rate, lesson length, cancellation terms, reporting expectations and review point in writing. Be cautious about guaranteed grades or testimonials presented without appropriate context.
Try this next
Choose one action from this guide, try it on a fresh piece of work and note what you can do independently. Bring the work and one specific question to your teacher or tutor.
A clearer next step
Let’s talk about your child’s learning.
Share the year group, subject and what feels difficult. We’ll discuss suitability, availability and a practical starting point before you commit.
