VERITY LEARNING
GCSE maths tutoring
Clear explanations, focused practice and feedback matched to the school course.
Who this is for
Students in Years 10–11 who need to strengthen methods, apply them in unfamiliar questions or improve the way they show working.
What can make the subject difficult
A gap in earlier learning can make a new task feel much harder. Sometimes the knowledge is present but question reading, timing or explanation gets in the way. We use recent school work and short checks to separate these needs rather than treating every mistake as the same problem.
Skills we work on
- Number: fractions, percentages, standard form and estimation.
- Algebra: expressions, equations, graphs and relationships.
- Ratio and proportion: choosing methods and interpreting quantities.
- Geometry and measures: diagrams, units and justified calculations.
- Probability and statistics: interpreting information and reasoning.
Course and exam-board fit
Bring the school’s exam board and tier. AQA Foundation is normally assessed at grades 1–5 and Higher at grades 4–9. Tier decisions belong with the school; support is planned around the actual specification.
What a lesson looks like
Begin with a focused question or discussion. The tutor models one useful approach and explains why it works. The student tries a related task, talks through the decisions and receives feedback. The lesson ends with a manageable independent practice task and an agreed next step.
Making progress visible
We record the topic, the success criterion and how much support was needed. Correct work with prompts is useful, but it is different from doing the task independently. Later practice revisits the skill to check retention and application. Reports describe observed evidence rather than predict an exam grade.

Questions parents ask
Can tutoring help with multi-step questions?
We unpack what is known, choose a representation, justify each step and check whether the answer is sensible. Independent practice shows whether the method transfers.
How often should lessons happen?
Frequency depends on the starting point, assessment window, workload and practice between lessons. We discuss a realistic schedule during the consultation.
What does tutoring cost?
Tutoring is £30 per hour. Confirm the duration and written cancellation information before you book.

Let’s talk about your child’s learning.
Share the year group, subject and what feels difficult. We’ll discuss suitability, availability and a practical starting point before you commit.
